Interlude : un lieu pour boire
If ever in the Port Richmond area of Philadelphia i highly recommend the Memphis Tap Room.
always has great beer on taps, bottle list rotates seasonally(always a plus!). also in the new tradition of Philly bars its a gastro pub, so expect really great food(including various vegan/vegetarian options). also open early on the weekends for watching epl games(grab a good beer, a great meal and watch man united kick the snot out of everybody for another season!).
upcoming event: Mystery Beer Weekend! Sept. 4,5,6! 33 beers and you have to guess which beer is on tap!

Épisode Un : Dans la Mer Noire
Stouts. Black gold. Alcohol T. If the ocean were a stout and I was a duck I'd dive to the bottom and drink it all up! While the world thinks Guinness is the world's top stout i have to respectfully disagree. While it's good as a bar alternative, Guinness is kinda watery, even from the tap. A Good stout should be thicker than a milkshake, darker then a forest at midnight and have enough alcohol to knock you off your feet in one pint. It should smell like roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and oatmeal. after having numerous stouts I have compiled a top ten lest of what i think are the most delicious of stouts, from imperial to oatmeal stouts.
10. Founders Breakfast Stout/ abv. 8.30% - from Michigan comes the balanced meal stout. The nose has hints of oatmeal and coffee and the taste is just pure black deliciousness.
9. Lion Stout / abv. 8.0% - coming from Sri Lanka is this wonderful stout that still bears the image of the original beer hunter, Michael Jackson (the drinker, not the singer). Its nose smells of mocha ( coffee and chocolate) tastes of an espresso and finishes quite nicely! Found both in bottle and can!
8. Oskar Blues Ten Fidy/ abv. 10.0% - hailing from Colorado, this stout looks like motor oil( esp. since it comes in a can) while ordering this beer is incredibly awesome the taste is even better. The nose smells of pure roasted malt and chocolate. the consistency is thick as the oil it resembles. The can itself gives the stout an almost metallic taste(which is absent from getting it on tap) that actually improves the flavor!
7. Avery Czar / abv. 11.03% - another gem from Colorado. all i can say is that a full Pint of this dark , thick brew was like playing a game of soccer(long and tiring). Take in small amounts when possible.
6. North Coast Brewing Co. Old Rasputin Imperial Stout / abv. 9.0% - just a solid all around imperial stout. If possible find the anniversary edition aged in bourbon barrels(because good bacterial aging is amazing!)
5. Duck-Rabbit Rabid Duck Stout/ abv.10.0% - awesome brewery from North Carolina. This Stout was surprisngly good. The nose was full of chocolate notes but i think the chalace with all the duck heads wearing different hats truly won me over.
4. Allagash Black / abv.7.50% - from upstate New York comes this very mellow stout. The first sip starts strong then ends smooth.
3. Brouwerij De Regenboog Catherine The Great / abv. 10.0% - an amazing stout from Belgium named after the imperial stouts biggest fan. unusual in the fact it tastes more sweet than bitter. FIND IT ON TAP!
2. De Dolle Extra Export Stout / abv.9.0% - a delicious stout by one of my faaaavourite breweries.
Very carbonated and malty.
1. Southern Tier Imperial Choklat Stout / abv.11.0% - My favourite stout! Period! Amazing taste of pure chocolate in the nose, taste and finish. only available once a year and always sells fast. While the Southern Tier Creme Brulee Stout is also good its top 20 and not top 10. Not for beginners(go drink Young's for that). mix this with Kasteel Rouge and you have a liquid german chocolate cake!
Enjoy!

welcom pour le grand voyage!
Welcome everyone to the start of my blog! For the last couple years i have become both fascinated and in love with one of the worlds oldest beverages: BEER! No not Miller, not Budwiser and certainly not pbr but real flavorful, incredible beer! after years of roaming bars and various stores I've decided to, for lack of a better word, share what i have come across, from the different types of beer there is to the breweries that make it to great bars and cafes that serve it. my goal is to search for great beer and to share it with anyone who wants to know.
